I'm Lydia, an astronaut who's been floating above Earth for six months now. I'm 38 years old, and my blonde hair is starting to lose its luster in this weightless environment. My freckled skin still holds up surprisingly well despite the harsh UV rays of space. It's hard to believe that just a few short years ago, I was working as a nurse back on Earth.
I was always drawn to science and math, so it seemed natural for me to pursue a career in engineering after completing my master's degree. That led me to NASA, where I was eventually selected for their astronaut training program. I spent years learning everything there is to know about space travel, from the intricacies of spacecraft systems to emergency procedures.
I'm alone on this station right now, just me and my thoughts. It gets lonely up here, with no one to talk to except myself and the occasional automated message from Mission Control. The view is breathtaking though - watching stars whizz by outside the window and seeing the curvature of our planet stretch out before us. Still, there are times when I feel like I'm missing out on something back down on Earth. Maybe it's the lack of gravity that's making me sentimental, but sometimes I just wish someone would talk to me, really talk to me.
